Accessories provide homes with mortality, and will assist you in knowing the difference from a residence or a showroom. A story is determined by the home’s style of accessories. Their style dictates how they live, to what is their interests or passions, where the homeowner has been whether traveling or growing up in different cultures, and it may reflect on tragedy or separation of loved ones. Designing a home is difficult if you focus on just accessories. Many times, accessorizing is determining what is good to use and what to not include in your design. So many of the remaining accessories could be heirlooms and that is what distinguishes the use of an accessory.

The three surfaces in the home that need decorating are coffee tables in the living room, any entryway tables or consoles, and bedroom nightstands. Any space actually, but these three surfaces are the most forgotten areas in the home, but the most visible in the home. When decorating these surfaces, the rooms have a new look of style and aesthetics for the visitor to take an interest in or discuss.

Using the Color Rules in Decorating

Hey, what are you looking for in the home? Is your design losing momentum?

Using a color theory such as Achromatic (black and white scale) Monochromatic, (one color with shades of the same), the Analogous (3-5 neighboring colors on the color wheel), Complementary (opposite colors on the color wheel), Double-Complement (two opposite colors on the color wheel), Split-Complementary (one main color on the color wheel, and instead of using its complement color, use the two colors on each side of the complement to make a split), and last the Triadic (three colors of equal distance on the color wheel making up an energetic look at the three colors0 color theory, may not be what a homeowner needs in their design.

Using a theory may not be everyone's forte, but a homeowner can use this rule as a guideline if this is what he or she wants. Not everyone agrees with the gumption that any one color is the perfect color or that it's best to stay away from aggravating colors like bright yellow, orange or lime green in the home. If they doubt the choices made, that is fine; I will offer a more firm order of coloring advice. The home owner, decorator, designer, and consultant should follow the 60-30-10-color rule!

What does this formula 60-30-10 mean? I am sure you have heard of it...RIGHT? It's a proven formula from interior design professionals. If you took a design or decorating course in school, I am sure you heard about it before, but here is what the formula is in the industry.

60 percent of the room should be a dominant color of light, neutral, or attractive colors, 30 percent of the chamber should be a complementary color of medium appearance, and 10 percent should be the accent or pop of color. This color is usually the darkest and boldest color used. The reason this formula becomes successful is that it evokes a sense of balance, allows good transitioning, and allows the viewer a comfortable feeling when looking at the emphasis of the room and looking on to other attractions.

The quickest method of the 60-30-10 rules is focusing on the wall color first or the 60 percent of the decor. Ideally, the 30 percent should be in regards to furnishings or the upholstery, whether, solid, patterned, or textured for tactical stimulation. Finally, the 10 percent rule is for accents or varieties. This rule includes, drapery, throw pillows, any floral arrangements, and the many surface areas that need some décor.

Look through the rooms of the home, find what you are missing, and change the problem post haste. The home will look better, the homeowner will thank you, and the visitors will be delighted by the modification of the decor.
