Setting the Holiday Stage

As the weather becomes cooler and the colors take on that muted fall tone, while the gardens become dormant, it is always comforting to add color to the interior of the home that makes the homeowner feel alive and energized. In the beginning, the changes should be soft and subtle, by adding a wreath to the front door, some garland branches to a staircase and mantel or some extra candles for some ambiance; this gradually can make one think of that ever-approaching holiday season.

In the kitchen the homeowner can create that “Lake Tahoe retreat” by laying a generous layer of fir boughs with a fresh fruit foundation and some ornamental jewels or beads to accentuate the sideboard or island.  Sprinkle a mixture of cloves, star anise, and some cinnamon sticks around tapered candle holders on the table to add a sweet and spicy aroma. Wrap the tapers with a gold sprig or wired ribbon to add a touch of sparkle to a table’s centerpiece.  Set assorted areas with splashes of poinsettias or decorative baskets of pinecones to bring out that natural and aromatic arrangement.
For a luxurious flair, layer red and gold ribbon to tie back your drapery or tie a bow from the dining table legs and chair backs.  Hang brilliant tassels from door handles and cabinetry or windows latches.  Decorate the fireplace mantel with personal holiday photos and memorabilia.  One should add gold frames and beaded garland to bring out the love for heartfelt memories.  Use fresh greenery and pinecones with a light sprinkling of cranberries or silver stars.

Entice other senses by adding swags of freshly cut pine wrapped with ribbon and ornaments. Add oils to the homes registers or light candles, and a gentle fragrance will waft through the home.

Make the holiday season a time to remember with loved ones and dear friends.  Wrap some cinnamon sticks together with red ribbon and add a seasonal bauble to make a special ornament or table setting they can take with them as a special treat. Nothing makes the holiday more memorable than a heartfelt gift.
